It is undeniable that teaching is one of the most decent and reputable professions globally. It is well said: a teacher is not a king but makes the king. Teachers are the builders of a nation. They are the reason for the melioration of a nation. They have the potential to build the nation and spoil it too if they want. If a nation wants to develop than it must hire the best teachers. History witnesses that the role of teachers has always been of immense importance for the development of any nation. Teachers must be paid off what they deserve. But, unfortunately, today teachers confront many problems including; no increment in salaries, no respect from society, and so on. Particularly, in Pakistan, a teacher does not even get the respect which is given to a peon. In Pakistan, few will love to be teacher; while, others will love to be a police or politician. The reason is, here an uneducated politician and 10 scale police will get more respect than 17 scale teacher. We must have practically observed this. Once, when I was traveling to the town from my village. A senior professor of my village was traveling alone with me. When in the check post, bus was stopped so all were asked to get off the bus for the check up purpose. Everyone got off the bus. The professor was old so he got off the bus late. Resultantly, the FC personnel rebuked the professor and brought him to heel. He even showed his service card yet he was insulted. This shows that how do Pakistanis welcome and respect teachers. In short, the government of Pakistan must work on paying handsome salaries to teachers and resolve whatever problems they confront.
