A phrase that articulates the equilibrium between the amount of greenhouse gases produced and the amount removed from the atmosphere. Simply, it is the climatic neutrality of greenhouse gases. It is in accordance with article 4.1 of the Paris Climate Change agreement of 2015. The target of net-zero which the cop26 also focuses is to reduce emissions of greenhouse gases CO2 in transport, industry, and energy sectors. The net-zero strategy envisages increasing clean and green energy with a special focus on reforestation and deforestation. At present only two countries vis a vis Bhutan and Suriname have achieved the target of net zero whilst 100 plus countries have committed to reaching the target of net zero by 2050. China has a target of net-zero by 2060, the US by 2050, Turkey by 2053, the UK by 2050, India by 2070, the EU by 2060, Australia by 2050, Brazil by 2060, Japan by 2050, by Nepal 2050, and Maldives by 2030 respectively. Until and unless the alternative and atmosphere-friendly energy is focused, this strategy will spoil. For instance, the main source of CO2 in the globe is transportation. Amid fossil oil, how can one expect a reduction in greenhouse gases? Investment in electric cars could be a viable solution. Another source of CO2 gases is rapid industrialization. It has been estimated that Coal has been 40 responsible for polluting the atmosphere through CO2. For this, it is a must to work on renewable energy. Scientists believe that it is too little too late. Whereas, the Climate crisis advisory group reiterates that a net-zero target is not adequate to compete global warming. More work is needed to deal with the dragon of global warming. For this, More research is a must so that to find new ways and innovation and to materialize those in coping up with greenhouse emissions. Mere focusing on the net-zero initiative will not be sufficient enough to fight global warming and climate change.
