Islamabad: National Command and Operation Center (NCOC) on Friday decided to hold winter break in educational institutions from January 3.
A meeting chaired by NCOC head Asad Umar to review the rescheduling of winter vacations of education institutes was held on Friday. Federal Minister for Education Shafqat Mehmood, SAPM Health Dr Faisal Sultan and all other stakeholders also attended the session.
In a post on social-networking website Twitter, the NCOC said that the decision has been taken to speed up the process of vaccination among the people.
“During NCOC session on Friday, it is decided that winter vacations in education sector will start from January 3, 2022 apart from fog and smog hit districts of Pakistan,” the post stated.
It added that the decision has been taken to maximize vaccine uptake amongst students in educational institutions, which can be best achieved when schools are open as millions of students remain unvaccinated, and data suggests that children may be susceptible to infection.
The NCOC urged parents to get their children vaccinated at the earliest to protect them and those around them.
On the other hand, The Lahore High Court (LHC) has ordered closure of schools from December 23 to January 4, nullifying NCOC decision to hold winter vacations from last week of January 2022.
LHC announced the verdict during smog case hearing and stated that the decision of closure of schools has been taken while considering the hazardous effects of smog in the city.
The Sindh government, however, has already announced winter vacations in all educational institutions from Dec 20 to Jan 01.
