Lahore, (Parliament Times) : The Pakistan Readymade Garments Manufacturers & Exporters Association (PRGMEA) regional chairman Sheikh Luqman Amin has opposed the recommendation of the members of Senate Standing Committee on Commerce for extension of tenure of FPCCI office-bearers for two years. He said that the office-bearers of trade bodies and FPCCI who are elected from the business community cannot afford two years compromising on their businesses particularly in the wake of economic challenges. He said that recommendation for extension of period of Executive Committee of FPCCI for two years is completely contrary to the Trade Organization Act 2013, Trade Organization Rules 2013 and bylaws of entire trade bodies of Pakistan who nominate their representatives on Executive Committee of FPCCI. The Trade Bodies which are known as Member Bodies of FPCCI have a one year tenure which does not match the new proposal of two years tenure of FPCCI. It was further stated by the trade bodies that FPCCI is in the mid of its schedule of rotation of president-ship and any change in rotation will create frustration to the business community of small provinces who are long waiting for their term in rotation. While pressing his concern on this proposal he declared it an arbitrary recommendation made without consultation of the trade bodies of more than 260, including chambers, trade associations, women Chambers and small chambers. These trade bodies have vehemently rejected such move of extension in the past as well and recently they have submitted their reaction to the members of National Assembly standing Committee on commerce against any sort of extension of period of FPCCI. He said that senate committee never invited their comments on this move nor consulted them. The trade bodies while vehemently once again rejecting the recommendation of extension of tenure of office bearers of FPCCI for two years said that this would be a great injustice and tyranny to the business community of small provinces and trade bodies located in the administrative federal areas. They may consider this move as conspiracy being hedged to deprive the representatives of trade bodies of small provinces who get a chance after seven years in present rotation of presidentship of FPCCI and in new proposed rotation they would get chance in FPCCI after 14 years.
