Lahore, (Parliament Times) : Acknowledging the long-standing demand of the Council of Pakistan Newspaper Editors (CPNE), the Federal Ministry of Information has finalized a “digital policy” for other news websites, including newspaper websites. These views were expressed by Federal Minister for Information Fawad Chaudhry while talking to CPNE officials after the demise of CPNE President Arif Nizami and offering condolences to his 100 supporters. He said the policy would be presented to the cabinet for approval next week. On the occasion, Principal Information Officer Sohail Ali Khan said that under this digital policy, the government would issue separate advertisements on newspaper websites for which a proposal to allocate Rs one billion is under consideration. As per the directive of the Federal Minister of Information, the quota of websites of regional and local newspapers including national newspapers will also be allocated. Under the digital policy, any website that has been in existence for more than six months will be eligible to receive advertisements. The presence on the advertising website will be monitored by the cyber wing. Senior Vice President CPNE Kazim Khan along with Provincial Presidents Irshad Ahmed Arif and Ayaz Khan thanked the Federal Minister for the efforts of the Ministry of Information for speedy implementation of the policy.
