Quetta, (Parliament Times) : A meeting of the Provincial Disaster Management Commission chaired by Balochistan Chief Minister Jam Kamal Khan was held at the Chief Minister’s House on Monday. The meeting was attended by Interior Minister Mir Zia Ullah Langah, Member Provincial Assembly Asghar Khan Achakzai, Parliamentary Secretary Mir Sikandar Imrani, Additional Chief Secretary Planning Hafiz Abdul Basit, Additional Chief Secretary Home Arshad Majeed, Principal Secretary to the Chief Minister Zahid Saleem and Finance Secretary Abdul Rehman Bazdar. Secretary Irrigation Ali Akbar Baloch, Director General PDMA Naseer Nasir and other concerned officials also attended the meeting. The meeting was given a detailed briefing by the DGPDMA on Balochistan Disaster Management Fund, Compensation Policy, Emergency Stock and Logistics Plan. They said that the Balochistan Disaster Management Fund has been set up under NDMA Act 2010. The PDMA Act will soon be tabled in the Cabinet for approval. The meeting also approved a revised policy for compensation to victims during natural calamities. The meeting also decided to set up a committee headed by a senior SMBR to resolve the service issues of PDMA employees. The multi-hazard vulnerability and risk assessment report conducted by PDM in Gawadar and Lasbela was also presented in the meeting. Expressing his views on the occasion, the Chief Minister said that risk assessment of other districts should also be done on the pattern of Gawadar and Lasbela. “We have to modernize our institutions to deal with disasters,” he said. The Chief Minister directed that steps be taken to utilize modern machinery during floods and snowfall.
