ISLAMABAD: Federal government has dropped electricity bomb shell on the people as National Electric Power Regulatory Authority (NEPRA) has accorded approval to raise power tariff by Rs 1.95 per unit fixing the cost of per unit at Rs 16.33.
NEPRA has scaled up electricity tariff on the request of federal government. With the increase of cost of per unit of electricity by Rs 1.95 the cost of per unit has gone up from Rs 14.38 to Rs16.33.
NEPRA decision on hike in electricity tariff will be applicable to lifeline consumers as well. The tariff has been increased for the consumers consuming electricity upto 50 units as well.
The consumers will have to bear the additional financial burden of Rs 200 billion.
This hike in the power tariff will not be applicable to K Electric.
The power tariff has been raised under fuel adjustment surcharge and the hike in the tariff will be applicable to the electricity bills for the month of February.
It may be mentioned that government had increased power tariff by Rs1.53 per unit a few days back.
