A large number of commentators at a recent forum said that Israel is a major economic and military power, with which many countries, including India, Egypt and Turkey, have benefited. The common questions were established at the forum: Has Pakistan’s non-recognition benefited Pakistan from the Arab countries that are against Israel? Do Pakistani think Pakistan should establish relations with Israel? Can Pakistan reap economic and military benefits through these relations? Many opined that Israel is a reality. Pakistan must establish economic, cultural and bilateral relations with it. This is in the interest of Pakistan so Pakistan should not delay. Many other Muslim countries have recognized Israel. Therefore, Pakistan should follow them and acknowledge the bitter reality of Israel. Israel is an influential country and it would be beneficial for Pakistan to have economic and strategic relations with it. Pakistan has not benefited from anti-Israel Muslim countries to date, Pakistan has not benefited from anti-Israel Muslim countries. So, there is nothing wrong with recognizing Israel. Those who refer to the Qur’an do not know that Prophet Muhammed Peace Be Upon Him also made a historical treaty with the Jews in principle. Thus, there is nothing wrong with recognizing Israel. Pakistan should establish relations with Israel. Pakistan is now a modern country and none of those who have established ties with Israel have been harmed. Pakistan should have done this long ago. Such opinions are only derived on a private forum. But, Federal Interior Minister Sheikh Rashid lashed out at PDM chief Maulana Fazlur Rehman. Addressing a press conference at Mayo Garden, Lahore, Sheikh Rashid said, “I regret today’s statement of Maulana Fazlur Rehman. The sun may rise from the west instead of the east, but Imran Khan cannot accept Israel.” The recent statement of Sheikh Rashid indicates as If Pakistan recognizes Israel at this time or extends a hand of friendship to it, the public will get the impression that Pakistan has sided with the Palestinians. It will be difficult for the government to justify its position. Will recognizing Israel benefit or harm Pakistan? Still the debate is ongoing.
