Kabul: (Raja Furqan Ahmed) The United Nations Security Council has agreed to extend the United Nations Assistance Mission in Afghanistan (UNAMA) for another year. The 15 member council Unanimously agreed to extend the mission’s mandate until September 17 next year. The UN Security Council also welcomed the start of Intra-Afghan negotiations in Doha and strongly encouraged the parties to continue pursuing confidence-building measures including additional reductions in violence and encouraged them to engage in good faith.
This comes as Intra-Afghan talks between the Afghan government and the Taliban have started. In addition, the Afghan government and many foreign countries are also demanding the Taliban group to establish a permanent ceasefire in Afghanistan.
