The 15 member council Unanimously agreed to extend the mission’s mandate until September 17 next year. The UN Security Council also welcomed the start of Intra-Afghan negotiations in Doha and strongly encouraged the parties to continue pursuing confidence-building measures including additional reductions in violence and encouraged them to engage in good faith.
This comes as Intra-Afghan talks between the Afghan government and the Taliban have started. In addition, the Afghan government and many foreign countries are also demanding the Taliban group to establish a permanent ceasefire in Afghanistan.
