Rises to 1232.10 feet against maximum  of 1242.00 feet ,

MIRPUR (AJK):  (Parliament Times)   The due seasonal impounding of the country’s largest Mirpur AJK-based Mangla dam has, by now, begun swiftly as the rising trend of water level in the reservoir was witnessed as recorded 1232.10 feet on Friday against the maximum conservation level 1242 feet with live storage of 6.580 MAF, official sources said.

The minimum operating water level in the dam is 1050 feet, the sources told this Correspondent on Friday.

Following the advent of melting of snow at the upper reaches of the Himalayan state of Jammu & Kashmir, the water level in the reservoirs in the country including the largest – Mangla dam, located in Mirpur district of AJK, has started rising rapidly, authoritative official sources confirmed.

The inflows of water of Jhelum river at Mangla was reported on Friday as 24800 cusecs with the outflows of 15000 cusecs from the Mangla reservoir, the sources said.

The overall position of the river inflows and outflows at Tarbela, Mangla and Chashma along with the reservoirs levels and the barrages on Friday remained as under:-

Rivers: Indus at Tarbela: Inflows 192700 cusecs and Outflows 130000 cusecs, Kabul at Nowshera: Inflows 46700 cusecs and Outflows 46700 cusecs, Jhelum at Mangla: Inflows 24800 cusecs and Outflows 15000 cusecs, Chenab at Marala: Inflows 60900 cusecs and Outflows 29600 cusecs.

Barrages: Jinnah: Inflows 188900 cusecs and Outflows 180700 cusecs, Chashma: Inflows: 195200 cusecs and Outflows 190000 cusecs, Taunsa: Inflows 190200 cusecs and Outflows 166300 cusecs, Panjnad: Inflows 15000 cusecs and Outflows ‘Nil’ cusecs, Guddu: Inflows 144500 cusecs and Outflows 119800 cusecs, Sukkur: Inflows 104100 cusecs and Outflows 54700 cusecs Kotri: Inflows 50900 cusecs and Outflows 35100 cusecs.

Reservoirs (Level and Storage):
Tarbela: Minimum operating level 1392 feet, present level 1490.44 feet, maximum conservation level 1550 feet, live storage today 2.906 million acre feet (MAF).

Mangla: Minimum operating level 1050 feet, present level 1232.10 feet, maximum conservation level 1242 feet, live storage today 6.580 MAF.

Chashma: Minimum operating level 638.15 feet, present level 645.40 feet, maximum conservation level 649 feet, live storage today 0.136 MAF.

The inflows and outflows of River Indus at Tarbela, Jinnah and Chashma, River Kabul at Nowshera and River Jhelum at Mangla have been reflected as mean flows of 24 hours, whereas the other flows have been gauged at 6.00 a.m on Friday.
