Seeks end to cross border shelling and hostilities,
Islamabad: (Parliament Times) Expressing serious concern over the escalating tensions and loss of human lives on the Line of control (LoC) Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf Azad Kashmir chapter on Monday stressed the need for immediate cessation of shelling on the LoC to ensure full protection of life and property of the people living near the line of control.
Calling for an end to hostilities the PTI secretary information Ershad Mahmud said that given the volatile situation in the region there was a dire need of deescalating tensions on the borders and restoration of ceasefire agreement of 2003, which he said was agreed upon by both the governments of India and Pakistan respectively.
The PTI secretary information said that it was unfortunate that the Indian army was targeting civilian population that besides killing scores of innocent people has resulted in the destruction of public and private properties at a large scale. Terming it as a flagrant violations of the international law Mr. Mahmud stated that deliberate attempt to target non-combatants constitutes a serious violation of the international law, which seeks protection of non-combatants even in the state of supreme emergencies.
Referring to loss of human lives Mr. Mahmud said that it was unfortunate that since January 2019, 40 plus civilians have been killed and hundreds others wounded due to ceasefire violations by the Indian army in different areas of AJK along the LoC.
Offering his heartfelt condolences to the bereaved families, whose near and dear ones were killed after being hit by Indian shelling from across the Line of Control (LoC) on Sunday, Mahmud said, “we owe a debt of gratitude to these daring people who have been braving the brunt of Indian aggression courageously”. Terming cross border skirmishes on LoC as an offshoot of the unresolved Kashmir problem he said it was imperative that the world should realize the sensitivities of Kashmir issue and play its much needed role in resolving in this festering dispute that has been bedeviling relations between the two nuclear neighbours.
