ZHOB: Defence Day observed with zeal, enthusiasm, national spirit and a renewed pledge to sacrifice lives for upholding the prestige of the country here in Zhob district. The day observed with due reverence to commemorate the supreme sacrifices of valiant soldiers who embraced martyrdom in defence of the ideological and geographical frontiers of the country. Glowing tributes were paid in a ceremony held at 29 Brigade. Deputy Commissioner Taha Saleem was the chief guest of the event, who laid a floral wreath at Yadgar-e-Shuhada and offered dua for the martyrs. A contingent of the Pak Army presented salute to pay respect to the martyrs. The ceremony was attended by government officials, military officers, notables and relatives of the martyred soldiers.
After laying floral wreath the chief guest said that the Defence Day reminds us of the indomitable courage and unmatched sacrifices of our gallant men who proved the world that the Defence of Pakistan is unassailable,” he said.
Earlier the day, Deputy Commissioner accompanied by ADC and AC also visited the martyrs’ residences to meet the family members and paid their respects to them. DC also led a rally that culminated at Kaliwal Shaheed chowk to express solidarity with Kashmiri people. Government officials and students participated in the rally.
To mark the day, another ceremony held at Frontier Corps headquarters, where Commandant Zhob Militia Col. Tahir Bashir laid a floral wreath at the graves of martyrs and offered dua for the martyrs. A contingent of the Frontier Corps presented salute to pay respect to the martyrs. Col. Tahir Bashir in his speech said that the day is celebrated to commemorate the sacrifices of the martyrs. He paid tribute to the gallantry and courage of those who participated in, and lost their lives.
“The armed forces have played remarkable role and laid down their lives so that the nation could live in an environment of peace, tranquility and security”, Col. Tahir Bashir said.
