By Dr. Abdul Razak Shaikh,

Dr. Muzafer Ghanghro has been arrested from Ratodero Larkana in a case causing fatal disease Human Immunodeficiency Virus [HIV] and then converting in Acquired Immune Deficiency Syndrome. [AIDS]. At present near an about more than 100 cases has been detected HIV positive and Doctor himself also HIV positive. He has been in demand by local police. DIG Larkana The division has constituted JIT under the supervision of SSP Qamber-Shahdadkot to ascertain the actual cause of HIV spread.

As per Deputy commissioner Larkana, Doctor Muzafer Ghanghro deliberately used the same syringe to make HIV positive on their patients as revenge. The question arises that how Doctor himself suffered and from which source? why he decided to choose to take revenge by making the same syringe to children. This question needs a complete investigation. The doctor cannot do such a Heinous Crime. Panic still in the Ratodero area and all the patient of Dr. Muzafer Ghangho are advised to go for proper investigation for HIV. District Health Officer Larkana has also declared that Dr. Muzafer Ghanghro is the man who has spread HIV in children within a locality, Whereas Dr. Muzafer has denied the allegation.

Dr. Muzaffar Ghangharo, who is employed at a public hospital, is also a well-known practitioner in the Ratodero city and declared HIV positive after checking the blood by Health authority. Police have registered a case against the accused and produced him before a local court.

Dr. Masood Solangi Director General Health Sindh denied any involvement of Dr. Muzafer and demanded that he must be released for further his own treatment, as he himself is declared HIV positive. Director General Health Sindh said that the impartial inquiry is conducted for the spread of disease in the area.

The number of HIV-positive cases rose more than 100 as panic gripped the district and authorities tried to ascertain the causes behind the spread of the virus among the residents.

Dr. Sikander Memon, in-charge of the Aids Control Programme in Sindh, said a team is working in Ratodero to determine the causes behind the transmission of the HIV among the residents.

According to an estimate, there are over 100,000 HIV-positive people in Sindh, however, the Aids Control Programme has only 10,350 registered patients who are provided treatment.

Larkana continues to top the list of districts most affected by HIV in Sindh, with the total number of AIDS patients in Larkana at more than 2,400.

In total, 76.1 million people worldwide have been infected with HIV, since the epidemic started in the 1980s. Some 35 million have died.

As yet, there is no HIV vaccine or cure and infected people rely on lifelong anti-retroviral therapy to stop the virus replicating.

Without treatment, HIV-infected people go on to develop AIDS, a syndrome that weakens the immune system and leaves the body exposed to opportunistic infections such as tuberculosis, and some types of cancer.

Treatment carries side-effects and is costly, but allows infected people to be healthier for longer.

A case has been registered against Doctor by the Sindh Health Care Commission.

The arrested doctor is said to be examined by a medical board for his complete checkup. Doctor himself looking well and mentally fit apparently, was not aware of HIV positive earlier as he told from the lock-up of Police, and he has no symptoms of HIV till now.

The authorities took notice of the matter as the number of HIV-positive cases saw a sharp rise in the area. The health department has arranged the admission ward for the affected persons will be treated by the government.

Officials say the HIV epidemic in Pakistan remains largely concentrated among the key populations, including people who inject drugs, the transgender community, sex workers and their clients and men who have sex with men.

Treatment carries side effects and is costly but allows infected people to be healthier for longer. The Health Department Should take emergency measures to ban the usage of unnecessary injection and Quack must be withdrawn from the clinics.

The transparent inquiry needed that whether Doctor was involved intentionally or incidence has taken placed accidentally or incidence taken place outside the clinic of Dr. Muzafer.

If Dr. Muzafer has transferred HIV deliberately than he must be punished. This is a very heinous crime in the History of our country that should not be ignored but justification must be needed before anyone has to be involved. Peoples Doctors Forum Sindh and Pakistan Medical Association have demanded the early release of Doctor Muzafer Ghanhro and impartial inquiry to be conducted for the transfer of HIV.
