In Indian occupied Jammu Kashmir, rape is being used as an instrument of war. It should be kept in mind that the gender dimension is important both politically and socially. The atrocities in the occupied valley has reached a breaking point. Kashmir is not a piece of real estate to fight over. Prof. Afsar said in his detailed address to the participants of the debate “the regional peace is unpreventable and therefore it’s directly proportional to the development and progress of the regions in particular and the world in general. Jammu Kashmir conflict is an issue of humans living there”. The Kashmiri youth on both sides of Cease Fire Line has never been so proactive and jubilant as they are at the present, said Prof. Afsar. He further said that youth should play their active role to highlight this issue. He said that academia, researches, students, politicians should have come forward to work together for this cause. Abdul Basit Khan, Coordinator All Kashmir Forum, apprised the audience of the vision, mission, objectives and future plans of All Kashmir Forum. Basit said while speaking on this occasion “peaceful struggle by the people of Jammu Kashmir have met the usual oppression involving new methods of torture and violence in the bleeding vale of Kashmir such as use of pellet guns on innocent and unarmed civilians including women and children that resulted in dozens of killings, blinded and thousands sustaining serious injuries. Use of innocent youth (tied on army jeeps) as human shield, use of rape as a method of collective punishment, attacks on ambulances, harassing and arbitrary arrests of Kashmiri leadership, prohibition of Friday prayer congregations, Media and electricity blackouts to disrupt normal life and communication have become the daily routine of Kashmiri. The main points raised during the discussion were that Kashmir is not a bilateral issue – it is an international flash point. Hence, the issue cannot be solved unless the United Nations along with the International community makes sure that its resolutions are implemented”, added Abdul Basit Khan. |
