Muzaffarabad: (Parliament Times) Peoples Party Azad Jammu and Kashmir while denouncing in strong terms the use of force against university students by AJK Police has said that holding peaceful protest was right of every citizen.
Terming University as a sacred institution the PPP leaders during a meeting here on Thursday said that the atrocious act of using tear gas shelling, aerial firing inside the university premises and subjecting students to baton charging was highly condemnable. The meeting held under the chairmanship of the party president Ch. Latif Akbar observed that the use of force against students was a sheer incompetence on the part of rulers. Expressing its anguish over the incident the meeting demanded establishment of a judicial commission to identify and punish real culprits involved in this terrible act. The PPP also demanded revocation of cases registered against protesting students.
Urging government to provide treatment facilities to those who were injured the incident, the PPP leaders further demanded that authorities should stop harassing students and their families by conducting raids on their homes.
The meeting was attended by Faisal Mumtaz Rathore the secretary general Pakistan Peoples Party, the PPP president Mian Abdul Waheed, deputy secretary information Azadar Kazmi and others.
