Srinagar: Jammu Kashmir Liberation Front (R) chief patron, barrister Abdul Majid Trumbo, in a statement today criticised the state administration and jail authorities for “subjecting the prisoners to political vengeance and physical torture in Tihar jail.”

Expressing serious concern over the plight of pro-freedom prisoners lodged in Tihar Jail, saying “They are not being provided specific treatment.”

Barrister condemned the “ill treatment” meted out to the prisoners in Tihar jail, saying this is a gross violation of national and International laws.

“Every country must abide by these rules and regulations to ensure the safety of every individual under custody,” said the statement.

“Pro-freedom leaders Shabir Ahmad Shah, Farooq Ahmad Dar @ Bita Karete, Dr. G. M. Bhat, Nayeem Ahmad Khan , Altaf Ahmad Shah, Ayaz Akbar, Peer Saifullah, Raja Meraj-ud-din Kalwal , Syed Shahid Yousuf, Syed Shakeel Ahmad, Zahoor Ahmad Watali despite court orders have not been released,” said the statement.

“It is very unfortunate that the detention centers have turned into torture cells,” Trumbo said in the statement.

Expressing serious concern over the “deteriorating health” of its incarcerated party chairman Farooq Ahmad Dar, Barrister urged the international and local human rights bodies to take immediate notice of “deplorable condition of the prisoners.”

It also urged such bodies to take effective steps so that the “inhuman treatment” meted out to these detainees is stopped and facilitate medical treatment to them as their health has deteriorating due to absence of medical treatment .
