MUZAFFARABAD: (Parliament Times) The AJK Prime Minister Raja Farooq Haider Khan said that people and government of Azad Kashmir are on one page that legislative assembly of Gilgit Baltistan should be empowered.

In a statement issued here on Tuesday the Premier said except defense, security, currency and telecommunication, GB assembly should have powers on all the rest of the matters. He believed that GB assembly had been rendered ineffective due to SC decision.

He said the decision of Supreme Court had increased legal and constitutional difficulties. On one hand, in the decision, GB had been recognized as part of Kashmir State while on the other hand SC would be resorted for any amendment under 184/3.

Mr. Haider said “we demand federal government not to implement the decision of Supreme Court of Pakistan on GB. Instead recommendations of committees made in the past may be implemented”. He made it clear that people of Azad Kashmir fully support constitutional rights of people of GB. He was of the view that it was a sensitive matter as the decision of Supreme Court of Pakistan could also affect the position of government of Pakistan.

Meanwhile Mr. Haider examined the site for AJK’s historic and cultural museum, adjoining to Jalalabad library. He directed that the building may be handed over to Tourism and Archaeology department as soon as possible to ensure that the museum gets functional. Secretary Tourism and Archaeology told the Premier that funds had been earmarked for this purpose in the current fiscal year.
