MUZAFFARABAD: (Parliament Times) Azad Jammu and Kashmir government would get income of 60-70 crore rupees annually after inking a formal agreement with central power purchase agency of 30.4 megawatt Jhagran Power Station-I which was already being supplied to national grid.

Official sources told here on Monday that Jhagran Power Station-I had been supplying power to federal government for the past 18 years but there was no formal agreement signed between the two parties. AJK Prime Minister took special interest in the matter and the agreement was in the final shapes for signature. It would be an important step of state government after 13th amendment, added the sources.

Sources said that Prime Minister Haider was committed to hydropower generation and promotion of tourism in the State. “A number of other projects are approaching to completion including projects in Neelum Valley, Hattian, Muzaffarabad, Bagh, Mirpur and Kotli and mega project of Jhagran Phase-II. Work would soon start on some other hydropower projects” the spokesman said. After completion of all these power projects which would produce hundreds of megawatt power, not only enough power would be supplied to national grid to overcome power crisis but AJK would also get handsome revenue through them, maintained the sources.
