MIRPUR (AJK): Following the continued snowfall and resultant freezing of the upper reaches of the Himalayan belt, since over past couple of weeks, the water level in Jhelum river is constantly receding, official sources said.
Following receding of water level in Jhelum river, prime water resource falling in the country’s largest reservoir – Mangla dam, the inflow of the water in the dam was fallen to 9100 cusecs on Tuesday, official sources told on Tuesday.
As a result of the receding of water in the rivers falling Mangla dam was decreased on Friday to 1139.40 feet against the dead level of 1140.00 feet in the reservoir.
At the same time the overall position of the river inflows and outflows at Mangla, Terbela and Chashma along with the reservoirs levels and the barrages on Tuesday remained as under:
Rivers: Indus at Tarbela: Inflows 27700 cusecs and Outflows 50000 cusecs, Kabul at Nowshera: Inflows 4100 cusecs and Outflows 4100 cusecs, Jhelum at Mangla: Inflows 9100 cusecs and Outflows 22000 cusecs, Chenab at Marala: Inflows 9600 cusecs and Outflows 4000 cusecs.
Barrages: Jinnah: Inflows 69600 cusecs and Outflows 65600 cusecs, Chashma: Inflows 53500 cusecs and Outflows 59000 cusecs, Taunsa: Inflows 57400 cusecs and Outflows 49600 cusecs, Panjnad: Inflows 3700 cusecs and Outflows Nil cusecs Guddu: Inflows 40500 cusecs and Outflows 34000 cusecs, Sukkur: Inflows 30000 cusecs and Outflows 5100, Kotri: Inflows 4900 cusecs and Outflows Nil.
Reservoirs (Level and Storage):
Tarbela: Minimum operating level 1386 feet, present level 1440.64 feet, maximum conservation level 1550 feet, live storage today 1.049 million acre feet (MAF).
Mangla: Minimum operating level 1050 feet, present level 1139.40 feet, maximum conservation level 1242 feet, live storage today 1.379 MAF.
Chashma: Minimum operating level 638.15 feet, present level 642.90 feet, maximum conservation level 649 feet, live storage today 0.076 MAF.
The inflows and outflows of River Indus at Tarbela and Chashma, River Kabul at Nowshera and River Jhelum at Mangla have been reflected as mean flows of 24 hours, whereas the other flows have been gauged at 6.00 a.m on Tuesday.
