KARACHI: On the order of the Sindh High Court (SHC), the government attorney provided a copy of the Sindh Universities Amendment Act to petitioner Pasban, who has already challenged the Sindh Universities Amendment Act (SUAA) 2018 through its constitutional petition D2009/2018.
Pasban’s lawyer Irfan Aziz Advocate has said a double-bench of SHC comprising Justice Muhammad Ali Mazhar and Justice Agha Faisal today ordered the government’s attorney to provide a copy of the said.
Act to the petitioner, as it was not available anywhere.
He said after the court orders the office of the advocate general Sindh provided us the copy of the Act at 11:00AM.
He said as the government has sought time so the case is now adjourned to December 12 and on that day the respondents would file their reply and we will bring this Act on record along with our statement.
It may be noted that Pasban-e-Pakistan President Altaf Shakoor had challenged the Sindh Universities Amendment Bill 2018 through a constitutional petition.
The petitioner had submitted that the law was passed with malafide intention and it would close doors of education to students of urban areas of Sindh.
Advocate Irfan Aziz was of the opinion that after the passage of the act, the government universities are no longer independent institutions as the government representatives would occupy eight to ten seats in their syndicates. The higher education in Sindh would gravely suffer if the law was not annulled.
He said we have also challenged the proposed amendments in the Act. He said that the copy of the Act was not available at any place and it was not available at the website of government, as the government seemed to keep it secret. He said today on the order of the SHC the government lawyer has provided a copy of it to us.
