Karachi: Aafia Movement Pakistan (AMP) leader and noted neurophysician of Pakistan, Dr Fowzia Siddiqui, called on different political leaders in the Parliament House during her visit to the capital city.
As per details, Dr Fowzia reached Islamabad on two-day visit in connection with the ongoing drive of Aafia Movement Pakistan inside and outside the country to raise voice for early release of Aafia. During her visit to the Parliament House she met with different political leaders.
The leaders she met included the opposition leader in the National Assembly Mian Muhammad Shahbaz Sharif, ex-leader of opposition Syed Khursheed Shah, ex-ministers Khawaja Saeed Rafiq, Khawaja Muhammad Asif and others.
On these occasions, Dr Fowzia said that to provide legal assistance to Dr Aafia, and her repatriation to Pakistan were included in the election manifesto of the ruling PTI, as well as, its 100-days plan. She said the issue of release and repatriation of Aafia is not an ordinary matter but it is related to national honor and respect. She said the Parliament should also play its due role in this matter. She said the human rights activists and civil societies have also continued their efforts on the matter of Aafia outside Pakistan.
Dr Fowzia said during 15 years of the continuing detention of Aafia this is the fourth Pakistani parliament, and people have pinned a lot hopes on it. She said Aafia after her kidnapping along with her three minor children was kept in hidden jails in a forced disappearance for five long years. In the year 2008, due to the efforts of the UK reporter Ynonee Ridley the world knew about her al illegal detention. She along with the present prime minister of Pakistan Imran Khan had raised a strong voice against the forced disappearance of Dr Aafia Siddiqui in a press conference in Lahore. She said during these ten years many opportunities for release of Aafia were missed by the rulers.
She said the release of Aafia is a joint responsibility of both government and opposition. She said the present opposition when it was in power did not discharge this responsibility. She said the opposition should now help the government for early reparation of Aafia. She said she has come to Islamabad to see that the government and opposition remember their responsibility.
