Washington: A three-member Kashmiri delegation comprised of former information minister government of Azad Kashmir, Sardar Abid Hussain Abid, veteran Kashmiri intellectual Dr. G N Fai and Sardar Zareef called on Mr. Sajid Tarar the advisor to US president on South Asia here on Friday.
Highlighting the dangerous dimensions of the long-running Kashmir dispute the Kashmiri delegates during the meeting presented a memorandum to Mr. Tarar seeking Trump administration’s urgent attention towards the gross human rights violations committed by Indian occupation forces in occupied Kashmir. Regarding the Trump administration’s indifference towards the miseries of Kashmiri people the memorandum said that it was quite unfortunate that the US was watching the situation in held Kashmir like that of a silent spectator. They said that to ensure peace and stability in South Asia the US should shun this policy of indifference, lopsided approach and redouble its efforts to resolve the long drawn conflict, which they said was major cause and consequence of human rights violations in the disputed territory.
Mr. Tarar on the occasion assured the visiting delegation that White House would be conveyed the concerns expressed in the memo. Tarar said that he would also play an effective role to sensitize the US leadership about the prevailing situation in the region.
While thanking Mr. Tarar for his forthcoming approach Abid Hussain Abid said that Kashmiris over the past seven decades have been fighting for their legitimate right guaranteed to them by no less an authority than the United Nations. Notwithstanding the UN resolutions he pointed out that India has unleashed reign of terror in occupied Kashmir to suppress Kashmiris’ struggle for right to self-determination.
