New York: The reason of Prime Minister Imran Khan non-participation in the United Nations General Assembly 73rd Session was revealed.
Sources stated that news was circulating in the diplomatic circles that Prime Minister Imran Khan had been offloaded in October 2012, when he was flying from Toronto to Chicago. On that time he was questioned and then let gone but he couldn’t take part in the fundraising event at New York.
Sources stated that Pakistan’s Permanent Representative to the United Nations Dr. Maleeha Lodhi had also tried to agree Imran Khan for New York visit but Imran Khan sent Foreign Minister Shah Mahmood Qureshi on his behalf. Sources added the issues concerning immigration process have also been discussed subsequently fixed but this didn’t make his visit possible. According to the diplomatic sources, the proposal was not pushed to avoid any possible annoyance. In this regard when “Online” contacted a female coordinator of State Department for Pakistan, she didn’t respond and answer the query on telephone. However, on condition of anonymity a senior Pakistani diplomat said that he cannot deny or confirm the news.
However, according to the diplomatic norms in case of any prohibition, the government of hosting country can invalidate the bar on any Prime Minister or head of state as it has been done in the case of a leader from neighboring country.
