Brussels: Chairman Kashmir Council Europe (KC-EU) Mr Ali Raza Syed has praised fresh statement of new United Nation High Commissioner for Human Rights on issue of human rights violations in Indian Held Kashmir (IHK).
New UN High Commissioner for Human Rights Michelle Bachelet on has called on India to take meaningful action on addressing issues highlighted in the UN report on human rights violations in Kashmir.
In a written statement on Monday, the former Chilean president who succeeded Zeid Raad al Hussain as UN High Commissioner for Human Rights this month, emphasizing on right to equal justice and dignity for the people of Kashmir said, “In Kashmir, our recent report on the human rights situation has not been followed up with meaningful improvements, or even open and serious discussions on how the grave issues raised could be addressed.”
Welcoming her statement, chairman’s KC-EU said, there should be an international investigation into human rights violations in IHK specially UN should play its role for prevention of the violations.
All the criminals involved in human rights violations in IHK should also be trailed through the international court of law, Ali Raza Syed maintained. The international investigation into severe violence in IHK was a long-lasting demand of the people of Jammu and Kashmir. Ali Raza Syed called for final political solution of the Jammu and Kashmir dispute through meaningful dialogue that includes the people of Kashmir.
It is important to mention that the United Nations in its first-ever human rights report on Jammu and Kashmir in June this year called for an urgent need to address past and ongoing human rights violations and abuses and deliver justice to all people in Kashmir.
The main focus of the 49-page report released by the United Nations Human Rights Office in Geneva, remained on the human rights situation in the Indian occupied Kashmir from July 2016 to April 2018. It said that people of Kashmir had been suffering a conflict for seven decades that had claimed or ruined numerous lives.
Chairman Kashmir Council EU asked international community including UN to pressure India for implementation of UN’s resolutions on Kashmir in order provide right of self-determination to the people of Kashmir.
The international community should immediately intervene and stop human rights violation in IHK and play an effective role for just resolution of Jammu and Kashmir dispute, Chairman Kashmir Council EU urged.
