RAWALPINDI: Stray dogs have become a perpetual source of nuisance with becoming unquestionable kings of all the areas of Rawalpindi city and Cantt which have been turned into no go areas for citizens in the face of threat posed by the common phenomenon of dog bite.
As the evening heralds in , all the streets of Rawalpindi city starts echoing with barking howls from rampaging brutes those emerge from their safe havens located on garbage heaps or deserted corners of desolate streets or land spaces outside the butchers shops and scattered benches and tables of make shift hotels.
These wild beasts make a bee line from dark, forsaken streets and hound a single man or woman when they spot any one on the way to home after alighting from a wagon or bus, told a tandoor wala along side AQ Khan road Khanna Pur.
As I left my academy and started crossing road to step on a footpath to return home, I was terrified to see myself besieged by a cluster of horrendous dogs grinding their spiky teeth. I fell unconscious and later I saw my self lying on bed with bandages on my leg. These dogs barge into mosque during prayer timing and make the mats filthy besides trying to bite the faithful while they are engaged in prayer, said a prayer leader of a near by mosque.
They urinate outside the mosque gate and often try to bite the faithful when they come out of the mosque after offering prayer. Early in the morning they do not spare any faithful if he is found walking in the street alone on his way back from mosque to his home.
Look at the elderly woman filling her pitcher with water from tap, the shop keeper said pointing to an old woman. She is widow and she comes here daily to fetch water for domestic use and drinking purposes. Last week she was overtaken by dogs which bit and injured her seriously. On her crying for help, some passers by rushed to help her and salvaged her from the grip of bloody dogs, he looked with terrified eyes.
The people while coming hard on the municipal corporation walas over their criminal negligence in eliminating these dogs have demanded that new government should take immediate steps for elimination of stray dogs from Rawalpindi city otherwise they will be forced to go to streets.
