SC suspends LHC orders for recount in NA-131

ISLAMABAD: Supreme Court (SC) has suspended Lahore High Court (LHC) orders for recounting of ballots in NA-131 Lahore besides admitting PTI chief Imran Khan petition for hearing.
Imran Khan had defeated Khawaja Saad Raifq by close margin of 680 votes in NA-131 in general election-2018 held on July 25. Imran Khan had polled total votes 84313 votes while Khawaja Saad Rafiq had bagged 83633 votes.
Khawaja Saad Rafiq while challenging the victory of Imran Khan had requested Returning Officer (RO) for recounting rejected votes. In recount Imran Khan maintained his victory but his success margin had lowered to 608 votes. Later Saad Rafiq requested for reopening the whole constituency which was rejected.
However Saad Rafiq had challenged the RO decision in election tribunal of Lahore High Court.
LHC election tribunal took up the petition of Saad Rafiq for hearing on August 4 and ordered election commission to withhold Imran Khan victory notification besides conducting recount of ballots.
Election commission withheld the notification regarding success of Imran Khan .
PTI Chairman Imran Khan resorted to Supreme Court through his counsel Babar Awan against withholding of his notification.
After a brief hearing of the case Chief Justice of Pakistan (CJP) Mian Saqib Nisar remarked ? result of NA-131 has come and the political speeches should be reviewed on appropriate forum.
