MIRPUR (AJK): Mirpur Division police here on Tuesday launched the integrated monsoon tree plantation drive in Mirpur division.
Deputy Inspector General Police Mirpur Range Muhammad Yasin Qureshi inaugurated the campaign by planting a sapling at the Central Mirpur Police Range office Tuesday.
Similarly SSP Mirpur Riaz Haider Bukhari planted a sapling at Mirpur police lines by launching the monsoon tree plantation drive in Mirpur district. The SSP told on this occasion that at least 200 saplings would be planted by Mirpur police in the police lines besides at other stipulated locations.
Inaugurating the tree plantation campaign in Mirpur division by the police, the DIG Police Mirpur Range Muhammad Yasin Qureshi highlighted the significance of maximum plantation trees. He advised the cops across the division to plant at least a tree each at the stipulated location by contributing their due share in this national cause of exceptional significance.
Qureshi underlined that it has become imperative for every citizen, as national responsibility, to enthusiastically participate in all the seasonal tree plantation drives including the ongoing Monsoon tree plantation campaign to meet the climate change challenges besides to combat the environmental pollution.
The DIG Police said that all the police stations and police posts besides the police lines in all three districts in Mirpur division were being provided with the saplings for plantation during the tree plantation campaign.
Meanwhile, the overall Monsoon tree plantation drive has started across Azad Jammu Kashmir during which at least ten million saplings would be planted throughout the liberated territory, official sources said.
The sources told this Correspondent Tuesday that the tree-plantation campaign has simultaneously been launched by all the related government functionaries including the AJK Forest Department for which all necessary arrangements for distribution of saplings through the stipulated points across AJK have been made.
The sources said that the target of planting ten million saplings across AJK during the campaign has been fixed by the departments. Of these over a million saplings will be planted in Mirpur division comprising Mirpur, Kotli and Bhimbher districts.
The sources further said that to meet the target and to protect plants in future, people belonging to all walks of life including employees of public and private sector organizations, NGOs, students and other members of the civil society would be engaged in this campaign. The saplings will be made available free of cost on all the official nurseries of the AJK forest Department and the sales points.
The sources have invited the people including the students and the staff of the nation building institutions to enthusiastically participate in the campaign by planting maximum trees in their respective areas to make the drive complete success
