Islamabad : The Supreme Court of Pakistan has summoned advocate general Islamabad today (Tuesday) in a suo moto case pertaining to deforestation at Margalla Hills.
A three-member bench, headed by Chief Justice Mian Saqib Nisar, heard the case. The chief justice remarked general survey office is not taking the court orders seriously. It should not forget that it is not an independent department but answerable to courts as per the Constitution.
The chief justice also sought why survey general office is not conducting the survey of the Margalla hills, despite the court orders. He said the competent authority will have to conduct survey.
The top court judge said delay will be a costly business for the institution. The chief justice remarked that he had trust on survey general office competency and his trust is still maintained that the office has required resources available.
The chief justice directed additional attorney general to inform the court about the official responsibilities of the survey general office.
Justice Umar Ata Bandial directed additional attorney general to provide maps and other documents to the survey office. The additional attorney general responded that the said documents have already been provided.
The chief justice remarked the survey office is not an independent institution, adding it is not taking the court orders seriously.
