ASA concerned over non-payment of pension to retired employees of AJK University

MIRPUR (AJK): The Academic Staff Association (ASA) of Mirpur University of Science & Technology Mirpur Friday expressed grave concern over non-payment of due monthly pension amounts to the retired employees of the state-run Azad Jammu Kashmir University Muzaffarabad including teaching and other staff members, who had performed duties before the year of 2009.
“The meeting of the Academic Staff Association, MUST was held here on Friday with Sardar Muhammad Arif Khan, President of the Association, in the chair”, an ASA press release issued by General Secretary of the Association issued later on here said. All members of the Association attended.
The meeting, the press release continued, expressed concern over the non-payment of the due pension share commute to the pensioners from AJK University Muzaffarabad.
The press release continued as saying “It is extremely tragic to note that the teachers, who served the AJK University till the maturity of their stipulated 60 years age of retirement for making the young generation useful citizens and quality future architects of the nation, are being deprived of their due right of pensions. AJK University has abandoned the pension of the retired employees of the varsity defying the prevailing pension rules in the country. Whereas those employees of AJK University Muzaffarabad who were directly retired from the varsity on maturity of age were benefited of the due pensions. But the pension funds are not made available with the AJK Varsity for its those employees who were retired from any other educational institution. Since such retired employees served most of their time in AJK University Muzaffarabad, the AJK University Administration is indulging in the violation of the stipulated relevant rules and regulations of the pension share meant for the retired employees of the varsity. The AJK varsity administration is also adamant not to act upon the recommendations of the high level committee, formed by the President of Azad Jammu Kashmir to settle the issue of the pension share, on the pretext that the pension fund was not established. Various excuse and pretext are conceived to this direction. Why not the punitive action is being initiated against the concerned officials If the pension funds were misused or embezzled. Higher Education Commission (HEC) should probe into the matter. Academic Staff Association MUST is also in touch with Kotli University and Poonch University so that all the three universities could get their pensioner / retired employees, originally belonging to their parent AJK University Muzaffarabad, rid of the alleged injustice on the part of the AJK Varsity”, it added.
The Academic Staff Association MUST demanded of the President of Azad Jammu Kashmir, who is also Chancellor of the AJK based public sector universities to take immediate due action against those officials who did not act upon the recommendations of the high level committed formed by him (AJK President) to this direction. The ASA also demanded of the AJK President to kindly ensure immediate release of the pension amounts for the retired employees of AJK University in line with the recommendations of the aforesaid high level committee, according to the press release.
