Islamabad(Daily P.Times): The Islamabad police have devised a comprehensive security plan for the general elections which will be held today to void untoward incident, sources said on Tuesday.
As many as 7,014 security personnel including frontier constabulary and lady police will perform security duty at different polling stations.
All police stations have been divided into four-zones, 11 sectors and 21 sub-sectors. Zone incharge will be SP, sector incharge will be ASP/DSP and sub-sector incharge will be inspector rank officer.
As many as 11 senior officers will supervise security of the entire district and IG will himself monitor the security measures. All security officials deployed on election duty have been issued special cards.
In three Islamabad constituencies, 786 polling stations have been established; of which 26 polling stations have been declared highly sensitive and 87 sensitive.
To further improve the security situation, 33 vehicles and 44 motorcycles will be on patrolling duty. Besides 43 quick-response teams have also been formed. The quick response teams will be on standby with zonal commanders and sector commanders.
70 additional check posts have also been established to enhance security.
Meanwhile, to ensure smooth traffic on roads, traffic police department has also devised a comprehensive plan. As many as 471 traffic wardens under the supervision of five DSPs and SP traffic will perform duty. The parking areas will be set up some 200 feet away from the polling stations.
Addressing a high level meeting in Islamabad on Tuesday, SSP traffic said security of polling staff and voters is security personnel’s basic responsibility and they should accomplish their basic obligation.
He made it clear that negligence will not be accepted and strict action will be taken against those who violated their professional obligation. He said all security officials should be in close coordination.
