RAWALPINDI: Lahore High Court (LHC) Rawalpindi bench has directed subordinate court to start hearing of ephedrine case against 8 accused persons including PML-N candidate from NA-60 Muhammad Hanif Abbasi and his brother Basit Abbasi from July 16 and announce the decision till July 21 after conducting the hearing on day to day basis.
A single bench ofLHC Rawalpindi bench led by Justice Ibad ur Rehman Lodhi issued these orders on a petition filed by local lawyer Shahid Orakzai against adjournment of hearing of Ephedrine quota case against Hanif Abbasi and others by Anti Narcotics Special Court Rawalpindi.
The court remarked that orders sheet of subordinate court on adjournment of the hearing of this case be presented so that it could be ascertained what reasons have been mentioned about prolonged adjournment.
The court inquired from deputy director of ANF Muhammad Tariq in the court room where is your DG.
Deputy Director replied he is on leave.
Court remarked “ If he is on leave then to whom he has assigned duty in his place.
The court read out couplet “ Na Saaf Chupte Han Na Samne Ate Han”.
The court remarked “ one month adjournment means ANF wants to give relief to the accused. This case could not be decided since 6 years. Now the court itself will issue the schedule of hearing of this case.
Tanvir Iqbal counsel for Hanif Abbasi took the plea that “ we have been always insisting on early hearing of this case.
The court maintained “ this is a good thing. Then we get start regular hearing from today (Thursday).
Counsel for Hanif Abbasi said this is not possible
The court remarked “ you were just now saying that you want early hearing of the case.
The court remarked “ then we fix hearing of the case on July 14.
The counsel for Hanif Abbasi objected to it.
The court ordered for issuing schedule of hearing of the case that hearing be started from July 16 and case be concluded till July 21 after conducting hearing on day to day basis.
