Islamabad: Supreme Court (SC) has given extension of 6 weeks for fourth time to accountability court to conclude the corruption references against Ishaq Dar and Sharif Family for the fourth time.
A two member bench of SC comprising Chief Justice of Pakistan (CJP) Mian Saqib Nisar and Justice Ijaz ul Ahsan took up for hearing the plea of the judge of accountability court Muhammad Bashir seeking extension in time period of NAB references.
Justice Ijaz ul Ahsan inquired during the hearing that how much time is needed to NAB.
NAB lawyer told the court that no specific progress has been made in other two references against Sharif family.
CJP further inquired that how many references are pending as the verdict of one has been announced .
NAB prosecutor told the court that total references were four and one reference is against Ishaq Dar.
CJP inquired that Ishaq Dar is a fugitive. Can NAB give punishment to an absconder ?
Special prosecutor said that an absconder can be punished under section 31.
CJP again inquired that how much time is needed. NAB prosecutor said that defence lawyer has taken a lot of time.
??The statement of 14 out of 16 witnesses has been recorded and cross questioning from Wajid Zia in connection with AL-Azizia reference is underway. The statement of investigation officer will be recorded after Wajid Zia??, NAB prosecutor added.
The lawyer of Nawaz Sharif, Khawaja Haris held that I am saying from the first day that the verdict of all the three references should be announced altogether and Judge Muhammad Bashir should not hear the remaining references .
CJP replied that it has been said again and again that judiciary is doing injustice. Khawaja Sahab you also want mental relaxation/comfort. You will have mental comfort if the case be concluding soon.
??I could not slept with peace for several days??, CJP added.
Khawaja Haris said to CJP that you have burdened yourself.
Later, SC gave the time of more 6 weeks to NAB to conclude the verdicts in connection with NAB references against Sharif family.
