Islamabad: Accountability Court has awarded punishment of 10 years term to ousted Prime Minister Mian Muhammad Nawaz Sharif on corruption charges in Aven Field property case.
On Friday first of all the court took nearly four hours from the scheduled time. Earlier the court rejected the appeal filed by Nawaz Sharif on Thursday for delaying the decision for some days. The court also convicted Nawaz Sharif’s daughter Mariyam Nawaz to seven years while her husband Capt(R) Safdar was sent jail for one year in the absence of the all three accused.
Nawaz Sharif has been fined 8 million pounds and Mariyam Nawaz was imposed fine of 2 million pounds.
The judge of Accountability Court Muhammad Bashir court had reserved the decision of three corruption references against Sharif, his daughter Mariyam Nawaz and son-in-law Captain (R) Muhammad Safdar. The references were filed by National Accountability Bureau (NAB) under the orders of under Supreme Court orders.
After disqualifying Nawaz Sharif from holding office in July 2017, Supreme Court had instructed NAB to file corruption references against former Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif and hid family members.
The corruption allegations against former Prime Minister Sharif and his family members came on surface when Panama Papers exposes off shore companies in April 20016.
Sharif and daughter is in London since June 14 where his wife Begum Kalsoom Nawaz is being treated at a hospital .
