SC reserved judgment in Atta ul Haq Qasmi appointment case

Islamabad : Supreme Court (SC) has reserved judgment in former chairman PTV Atta ul Haq Qasmi appointment case. The court has adjourned hearing of matter of return of perks and privileges given to Atta ul Haq Qasmi till Monday.
A 3-member bench of SC presided over by Chief Justice of Pakistan (CJP) Mian Saqib Nisar took up for hearing Atta ul Haq Qasmi appointment as MD PTV case Thursday. Counsel for Pervez Rashid argued approval for salary was accorded by Prime Minister (PM). Summary in connection with Rs 1.5 million salary was forwarded to PM through Finance division.
CJP remarked “ you are saying right. Summary was finally approved by PM. All shared lawlessness which took place then. How can Atta ul Haq Qasmi draw perks and salary equal to MD when he was not inducted as MD. What standard Qasmi was having that he was appointed as MD. Justice Ejaz Ul Ahsan remarked “at whose behest he was appointed. On what criterion Pervez Rashid selected Atta ul Haq Qasmi. CJP remarked “ we are thinking seriously to refer the case to NAB. Counsel for Pervez Rashid said earlier 4 chairmen were appointed. CJP inquired was Atta ul Qasmi solitary competent media person.
The counsel replied Qasmi remained ambassador in two countries. He was conferred upon Hilal-e-Imtiaz. CJP remarked “see the record. Which government did so this all. Every time PML-N government rewarded Atta ul Haq Qasmi. The hearing was resumed after interval. Former information minister Pervez Rashid appeared in person in the court. CJP remarked “information minister had no powers to pay such hefty salary to Atta ul Haq Qasmi. This was tax money. How much salary Pervez Rashid drew as minister. I think his salary was 2.5 lac or 3 lac.
Pervez Rashid said my salary was less than this. CJP inquired then how you appointed the person against 1.5 million rupees salary. Counsel for Pervez Rashid said MD salary is 1.4 million rupees while chairman was paid salary of Rs 1.5 million. CJP said to Pervez Rashid “it is not our objective to criticize you by summoning you here. You are our leader and a leader should care for public money. Pervez Rashid said earlier four chairmen also drew this salary. Atta ul Haq Qasmi was appointed for the betterment of the institution. CJP remarked “ Ishaq Dar is roaming in London in good health. Ishaq Dar has been summoned on Monday. We will see how he refuses to return to Pakistan. We will determine who has to make recovery how much.
