MUZAFFARABAD:(Parliament Times) Health and anti-narcotics experts at a seminar called for effective drug education to sensitize the young minds about the negative social and health effects of drugs and eradication of the menace from the society.
The seminar was organized by University of Azad Jammu and Kashmir here on Thursday in collaboration with Pakistan Anti Narcotics Force (ANF) and district administration of Muzaffarabad.
The seminar was addressed by commander anti narcotics force northern zone Brigadier Hammar Ahmed Dogar, Associate Dean Faculty of Health Sciences Dr Bashir –ur- Rehman Kenth, Commissioner Muzaffarabad Chaudhry Imtiaz Ahmed and others.
The seminar was attended besides other by Dean Faculty of Arts Prof. Dr. Ayesha Sohail, Director English Department Dr Abdul Qadir, Dr Nisar Hussain Hamdani, Dr Nadeem Haider Bukhari, Deputy Commissioner Muzaffarabad Masood –ur- Rehman, Additional Deputy Commissioner Asim Khalid Awan, Director Languages Department Naveed Sarwar, and large number of the students of the university.
Speaking on the occasion Commander ANF Brigadier Hammad Ahmed said that youth are future of nation and they can play an important role in elimination of narcotics and drugs from the society. He said that positive attitude of the society can also help rehabilitate those who are suffering from the illicit use of drugs.
He urged the parents, teachers and the students to get fully involved in the Jihad against the drugs and warned that indifference on the part of the members of the society could push the society into the marsh of crimes.
He further said that there is strength of 700,000 police personal in the country while entire strength of Army is 600,000 and anti narcotics force is comprising of only 2900 personal who are fighting the curse in all four corners of the country.
The commander further said that no force or police could succeed completely in eradication of narcotics without cooperation and participation of the general public.
Addressing on the occasion, Associate Dean Facility of Health Sciences, Dr Bashir Ur Rehman Kant as appreciated the efforts of anti narcotics force for involving youth in the efforts to eliminate drugs from the society and suggested that awareness campaign against drug should be expanded to all districts of Azad Kashmir.
He said that drugs directly affect the cells of the brain leading to decline of the functioning of the brain. Dr Kenth further said that it is highly unfortunate use of drugs has been witnessed more among the children of effluent families than those who are poor and resource-less.
Commissioner Muzaffarabad division Imtiaz Ahmed highly appreciated the ANF for holding such an important seminar for the first time in Azad Kashmir and assured that administration will fully cooperate with ANF in its efforts to reduce the use and trade of of illicit drugs in the society.
