MUZAFFARABAD: Academic activities in first ever Cadet College in Muzaffarabad district and second in Azad Jammu and Kashmir began here on Friday.
A ceremony was held in the newly constructed building of the college located at Chattar Kalass where AJK Minister for Education Barrister Iftikhar Geelani was the chief guest. AJK Minister for Auqaf, Raja Abdul Qayyum Khan, Principal of college Brigadier (retd) Azim Khan and other dignitaries attended the ceremony.
The principal of the college told the gathering that as many 60 students from different areas of the country have been enrolled in the college on the basis of entry test. He added that more than 300 students would be enrolled in the college every year.
Speaking on the occasion, Minister Education Barrister Iftikhar Geelani said that establishment of first ever Cadet College in District Muzaffarabad was a great leap forward towards quality education and an important achievement in the education sector. He assured that government would provide all required resources to the college to keep the standard of education at par with other similar institutions in the country.
The education Minister said Prime Minister Farooq Haider Khan was determined to bring revolutionary changes in the education sector to secure a bright future for the next generation. Terming the students of the Cadet College Chattar as beautiful bunch of flowers, the ministers said providing opportunity to the students from different parts of the country to study under one roof would create sense of national unity and cohesion among them.
He said project of King Abdullah University located in the same area is close to completion that would be another great achievement in higher education sector.
The Minister for Auqaf, Raja Abdul Qayyum Khan in his speech highly appreciated former Federal Education Minister Dr Zubaida Jalal, former AJK Prime Minister Sardar Sikandar Hayat Khan and former Army Chief Ashfaq Pervaiz Kiani for their roles in establishment of Chattar Cadet College.
