LAHORE: Petition has been filed in Supreme Court (SC) seeking early construction of Kalabagh dam.
The petition has been filed by a local lawyer Ilam ud Din Ghazi in SC Lahore registry making federal government, Prime Minister, ministries of water and power, Council for Common Interest, chairman WAPDA and others as respondents.
The petitioner pointed out that construction of Kalabagh dam is must for agriculture sector and revival of closed industries. There can be no development in agriculture and industries sectors without Kalabagh dam. Due to non construction of Kalabagh dam loss over Rs 70 billion is being caused. With the completion of Kalabagh dam loadshedding will come to end.
He regretted that Kalabagh dam construction project stands suspended on political basis.
He prayed with the construction of Kalabagh dam, prosperity will come in the country. Therefore all the hurdles on the way to construction of Kalabagh dam be removed besides ensuring early construction of this dam.
He requested the court to issue orders to government to take steps on this count.
