LAHORE: A constitutional petition has been filed in Supreme Court (SC) Lahore registry for restraining Chinese for purchasing land on ownership rights basis in the name of CPEC project.

This constitutional petition has been filed by Barrister Zafar Ullah Khan of Watan Party.

The petitioner has taken the plea in the petition that soft terms of CPEC are against the national interest. CPEC project is vital for country’s solidarity. But no effective laws have been enacted prior to commencement of this project in order to ensure integrity of the country.

He pleaded that under the agreement 91 percent share of profit will go to China and Pakistan will get only 9 percent share of profit which is against national integrity.

It was further stated in the petition that serious threats can be posed to country’s integrity if Chinese are not prevented from purchasing lands on the basis of ownership rights.

Petitioner prayed the court to review afresh conditions of agreement and laws in respect of CPEC and issue orders for taking steps.

The petitioner requested the court to issue order for appointing Pakistanis as “Kafeel” instead of allowing Chinese to make direct investment in Pakistan.
