Islamabad: The apex court on Wednesday given another two month time to the accountability court to conclude the hearing of references against Sharif family. Moreover, the court also extended the deadline by three months of the assets accumulation case against former finance minister Senator Ishaq Dar.
A three-member bench of the Supreme Court (SC) headed by Justice Ejaz Afzal Khan heard the case. Earlier, the apex court had given six-month deadline to the NAB court to complete the trial which will expire on March 13. However, during the hearing NAB officials have presented the progress report regarding references against Sharif to court.
Justice Ejaz Afzal Khan remarked that judge of accountability court has explained the reasons regarding trail extension but hasn’t told the required time. NAB officials informed the court that two months are needed in the Ishaq Dar case whereas more than one month would be required to complete the Sharif family cases. During the hearing, Justice Ahsan also inquired how Ishaq Dar could be re-elected as a senator when he is absconding in a court case.
It was worth mentioned here that accountability court has early requested the top court to extend time period for the ongoing trials, arguing that they cannot be concluded within the six-month time.
