ISLAMABAD: Islamabad High Court (IHC) has reserved judgment on the maintainability of petition seeking initiation of contempt of court proceedings against former Prime Minister (PM) Nawaz Sharif.

A single bench of IHC presided over by Justice Amir Farooq took up for hearing a petition seeking ban on Nawaz Sharif speeches against judiciary and initiation of contempt of court proceedings against him Monday.

The petitioner took grounds in the petition that Nawaz Sharif is persistently ridiculing courts and is indulged in character assassination of the judges following his disqualification by Supreme Court. Delivering threatening speeches in public meetings has become his routine. Court should tell him the reasons why he was ousted besides imposing ban on his speeches.

The petitioner has made Nawaz Sharif, secretary information, chairman PEMRA and others respondents.

The court reserved judgment on maintainability of the petition.
