SC to hear petitions challenging Nawaz Sharif’s appointment as party president
Islamabad: The Supreme Court (SC) will hear petitions challenging Nawaz Sharif’s appointment as Pakistan Muslim League-N president today Tuesday. A three-member bench headed by Chief Justice Saqib Nisar would hear petitions. At least 13 people, including Pakistan Tehrik-e-Insaf chairman Imran Khan, Awami Muslim League president Sheikh Rashid, Jamshaid Dasti and the Pakistan People’s Part, have filed petitions in the apex court challenging Nawaz Sharif’s appointment as Pakistan Muslim League-N president. It has been argued that the appointment of former prime minister as party president is the violation of Clause 5 of the Political Parties Order 2002 and Article 17 of the Constitution.
