ISLAMABAD: Pakistan and Turkmenistan have agreed to expedite connectivity projects between the two countries including roads and rail linkages to increase bilateral trade.

The consensus to this effect was reached during the meeting of Prime Minister Shahid Khaqan Abbasi and Minister of Foreign Affairs of Turkmenistan Rashid Meredov in Islamabad.

The Prime Minister reiterated Pakistan’s interest in early completion of the energy projects with Turkmenistan.

He also appreciated the progress made on the Turkmenistan- Afghanistan -Pakistan -India- gas pipeline project (TAPI).

The Turkmen Foreign Minister briefed the Prime Minister on the present status of the gas pipeline project and other energy projects including proposals for electricity transmission line and fiber optic connectivity.

He invited the Prime Minister to visit Turkmenistan at his earliest convenience, which the Prime Minister accepted.

Turkmen Foreign Minister said that his country would welcome Pakistani participation in projects related to the petrochemical industry.
