Muzaffarabad: (Parliament Times) Secretary Health department Azad Jammu and Kashmir Major General Khalid Hussain Asad along with Director General Health Dr. Chaudhary Muhammad Bashir on Thursday distributed the relief cheques among the children suffering from Thalassemia.

Secretary Health visited the Thalassemia centre in AIMS hospital Ambor. DG health including Dr Muhammad Mateen, Deputy Director Naveed Ahmed and other concerned officials were also present. On the occasion, checks worth of 30 thousand rupees each were distributed to parents of 4 children suffering from Thalassemia.

Speaking on the occasion, Secretary Health, Major General Khalid Hussain Asad said, “These patients are our children”. He reiterated that thalassemia treatment will be improved further before long. “Maximum facilities should be given to the children and their parents should also be consulted so that they can be protected from any other disease” secretary health exhorted.

Khalid Hussain also asked for a detailed report from relevant authorities regarding the children suffering from Thalassemia. He also thanked Chairman Pakistan Bait-ul-Mall Abid Sheikh on this occasion.

Deputy Director Khawaja Naveed Ahmed while giving a briefing to the visiting delegates said that thalassemia disease is spreading rapidly in Azad Kashmir. “71 cases have been registered only in Muzaffarabad division, blood has been given to 266 children in the last two and a half months and for this, blood was obtained through 170 blood camps.”

He added that blood to the patients suffering from dylasis and cancer are also being donated. Deputy Director said that the amount of 4 lacs for the treatment of 5 children has been received from Pakistan Bait-ul-Maal and this is being provided to patients with medicines.
