Karachi: Terming Kashmir as purely a political turned humanitarian issue the chief justice AJK High Court Justice M Tabassum Aftab Alvi has said that the plebiscite in line with the UN resolutions was the only viable solution to the lingering dispute.

“Despite its international commitments India has been in perpetual denial to grant Kashmiris their birth right the right to self-determination guaranteed to them by the international community”, Justice Alvi said while addressing a luncheon hosted in his honour by Karachi Bar Association president Naeem Qureshi Advocate here on Saturday.

Justice Alvi said that world community must take effective notice of India’s traditional obduracy, which he said was main hurdle in the way of peace in the region. Referring to Indian policy of oppression and suppression in IHK he said that Kashmiris living in Azad Kashmir, to the contrary, live a free and peaceful life. Referring to ACT 74 he said that as per the act people of AJK have its own legislative body, president, prime minister, Supreme Court, as well as its own flag and national anthem. On the contrary he said Indian has usurped the fundamental rights of people occupied Kashmir

He said that over the past seventy years people of Indian occupied Kashmir have been fighting for their basic rights. He said that India that claims to be the so-called largest democracy in the world has usurped the fundamental democratic and political rights of the people by the dint of force. He said that India under the garb of draconian laws have given its occupation forces a free license to kill Kashmiris at their will. “Even human rights organizations and rights activists have no access to the region”, he said adding that Pakistan has been supporting Kashmir cause politically, morally and diplomatically.

Expressing his contentment with his Karachi tour, Justice Alvi said that he had started his career as a practicing lawyer from Karachi way back in 1983. He said that the cordial relationship between bench and bar was imperative for dispensation of speedy justice. Justice Alvi on the occasion invited the office bearers and members of the Karachi Bar Association to visit Azad Kashmir, which they accepted wholeheartedly.
