LAHORE: Senior Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) leader Chaudhry Nisar Ali Khan on Saturday dismissed reports of any rift within the ruling party, the media has reported.
Breaking the ice on the issue, after reports of rupture in the party had long been circulating in the media, he said neither there was any forward block in the party nor any such thing was on the anvil.
“There is for sure difference of opinion in the party and difference of opinion is soul of democracy, but there is no division as such,” he said.
Nisar said the opponents would see the PML-N united to contest next elections.
He said nobody should expect him to be sold politically, if he was after designations in the party he would have so far politically sold himself to others. You do get respect through your character, not designation, he added.
The former interior minister said the nation had given the United States a clear message which had calmed the US behaviour with Pakistan.
“This is the first time that the whole nation has sent the (world a) message of ‘give respect, take respect’. Whether threats are external or internal, we can play them down through unity,” he said.
He said the nation needed not to fight anyone, but to stay united as threats against Pakistan were not diminished, however they had become calm for now.
Nisar said whatever the policy his party would make, it would be in the best interest of the country.
He said he was unhappy with his party for having close relations with the current Indian government. Pakistan should not expect any good from India in Modi government, he added.
The senior PML-N leader also condemned the attack on a journalist Ahmed Noorani in Islamabad and said that attack on the journalist was tantamount to attack on freedom of expression.
He also said there were no surveillance cameras where Noorani was attacked.
