Srinagar: In occupied Kashmir, massive clashes broke out in different areas of Baramulla and Srinagar against more incidents of braid chopping in the two districts.

The incident sparked protest at Boniyar in Baramulla which turned violent after locals said that police reached late which led to the escape of the suspected braid cutter. Protesters blocked Baramulla-Uri highway.

Police lobbed teargas shells to quell the demonstrators who retaliated with stones. Several protesters were injured in police action.

In Shalteng area of Sheeri Baramulla, braid of a 20 year old girl was cut and the incident led to protests in the area. The protesters demanded immediate end to harassment of women.

Reports from Lawaypora in Srinagar said that two braid chopping incidents were foiled by two young girls. “One of the girls has suffered injuries while pushing back the attacker,” locals said. At Chattabal, people took to streets after the braid of a woman was chopped off.

Locals caught braid chopper in Lethapora, Pampore, near Ramky construction office this evening. “People handed him over to police,” a resident told media. When contacted, SHO Awantipora Nazir Ahmed said, “The person was a non-local resident and was taken into custody.”
