Islamabad: While accepting petition for hearing pertaining to journalists and employees working in electronic media (E-media) Islamabad High Court (IHC) has once again ordered Ministry of Information and Broadcasting and Ministry of law to file reply.
Pertinently the petition in IHC was filed by former president of Pakistan Federal Union of Journalists and National Press Club Farooq Faisal Khan.
Justice Amir Farooq of IHC took up the case for hearing on Tuesday. Pleading an electronic media journalist’s petition, advocate Saeed Khursheed argued before the court that journalists working in electronic media have no job security even most senior journalists employed in several channels are not paid their monthly salaries on time.Channel owners dismiss Journalists from their service when they will, he added.
Petitioner has prayed the court that it should issue orders to ministry of information and broadcasting for legislation to improve the miserable conditions of E-media journalists. The laws enacted for print media be applied to electronic media unless separate legislation is enacted for electronic media, he said. Petitioner further stated that the same petition was filed in 2014 but ministry of broadcasting and information and law have not filed reply as yet.
The court while ordering to issue notice again to Ministry of Information and Broadcast and Ministry of Law adjourned the hearing till November 4. Federation, Ministry of Information and Broadcasting, Pakistan Broadcasters Association and Pakistan Electronic Media Regulatory Authority (PEMRA) have been made respondents in the petition.
