Muzaffarabad: (Parliament Times) On the special directives of the Prime Minister Raja Farooq Haider Khan, the AJK Education Department on Tuesday formally approved renaming of Government Boys High School Chakoti as Captain Sarwar Shaheed (Nishan-e-Hyder) as a mark of respect and recognition of his supreme sacrifice and indomitable role to defend the country.
According to a handout issued by the AJK Press Information Department (PID) the Education Department has approved a summary to rename the Government Boys High School Chakoti, as Captain Sarwar Shaheed High School. Pertinently, Captain Sarwar Shaheed was the first Pakistani army officer who embraced martyrdom while fighting valiantly against Indian army in Chakoti sector in 1965.
Raja Muhammad Sarwar Khan was a captain in the newly formed Pakistani Army. He was born to a Rajput family in Singhori village, Tehsil Gujar Khan, He was commissioned in 1944 and assigned to the Punjab Regiment.
Captain Sarwar launched an attack causing heavy casualties against a strongly fortified enemy position located in the Uri Sector. His battalion was subject to under heavy machine gun, grenade, and mortar fire. On 27 July 1948, as he moved forward with six of his men to cut their way through a barbed wire barrier, he embraced martyrdom when he was shot in the chest with heavy machine gun fire.
In recognition for his valor, Sarwar was posthumously awarded the Nishan-E-Haider, Pakistan’s highest military decoration.
