Muzaffarabad: (Parliament Times) The AJK Education Department has formally issued appointment letters to 26 successful candidates who have appeared in NTS test recently.

Divulging the details the District Education Officer Raja Iftikhar Ahmed while talking to media men here said that he had witnessed it for the first time in his 35-year career that appointments were made in a very transparent manner and on the basis of merit system free of political influence. He said out of 26 successful candidates appointment letter of 4 candidates were withheld because of objection raised against their state subject certificates. “Once the issue is settled the appointment letters would be issued without any further delay”, he said adding that interviews of 50 candidates for junior teachers were also in progress.

Terming it as a sort of a unique precedent the DEO said that many unprivileged candidates were surprised to receive their appointment letters from his office. “In fact many of them (candidates) who came from diverse political and social backgrounds were amazed to see that they achieved their goal without having any political influence”, he said adding that the successful candidates on the occasion expressed their gratitude to the Prime minister and education minister for introducing the NTS system. Ahmed said that these appointments, which were made on merit, speak volumes about the transparency of NTS and the Education Department.

Speaking on the occasion the newly appointed teachers who received their letters from DEO said that the government by introducing NTS system has provided a unique opportunity for highly qualified and intelligent students who come from poor background to seek jobs on merit. Had there been no NTS it would have been quite difficult for us to seek job in government sector”, they said.
