Srinagar: In occupied Kashmir, the joint resistance leadership has warned India of strong reaction against the genocide of Kashmiris, harassment by Delhi-based investigating agencies and plans to abrogate Article 35A with an aim to change the demographic composition of the territory.

The leadership comprising Syed Ali Gilani, Mirwaiz Umar Farooq and Muhammad Yasin Malik in a joint statement in Srinagar said that Indian rulers backed by Hindu extremist organization Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh were plotting to change Kashmir’s Muslim majority status by eradicating the state subject law. The leaders said a vicious campaign has been launched on Indian news channels to malign the Kashmiri resistance leadership. They urged people to protest against all such anti-Kashmir moves. Karwan-e-Islami Chief, Maulana Ghulam Rasool Hami addressing a gathering at Rabipora in Gandarbal categorically stated that the abrogation of special status to Jammu and Kashmir would not be acceptable.

The students of Kashmir University staged a pro-freedom demonstration during the visit of Governor, NN Vohra, to the campus, today. The students assembled outside the Institute of Kashmir Studies where NN Vohra was chairing an official function. The students were holding banners and placards bearing pro-freedom slogans. The campus reverberated with slogans like “We want freedom”, “Go India Go Back” and “We stand by resistance leadership”.

The Mirwaiz-led Hurriyat forum in a statement issued in Srinagar expressed serious concern over the shifting of Hurriyat leaders Shahid-ul-Islam, Ayaz Muhammad Akbar and Farooq Ahmed Dar to New Delhi’s infamous Tihar Jail.

The All Parties Hurriyat Conference in a statement criticized the summoning of Dr Nayem Gilani and Naseem Gilani by the National Investigation Agency saying that the authorities in Delhi had virtually accepted defeat and now subjecting Syed Ali Gilani and his two sons to physiological and mental torture.

Meanwhile, complete shutdown was observed on the fourth consecutive day in Hajin area of Bandipora district, today, against the killing of a local youth by Indian troops. APHC leader Zamruda Habib led a protest demonstration in Sopore.

Indian Supreme Court admitted a plea challenging the legality of Article 370, and issued notices to the Indian government to submit its response on the plea.

On the other hand, journalists from print and electronic media staged a sit-in outside the office of the SSP Handwara to protest against the thrashing of a reporter, Javed Zargar, by Indian police. The journalists carried placards with the slogan, “Stop harassing media”.
